For fans of craft beer or those who are interested in giving it a try for the first time, the 2015 Ballena Beer Fest is almost here. Celebrating Costa Rican craft beer, this year's festival is slated to have more beer, more breweries, and more fun than ever before. During this one-day event, attendees will have the chance to sample a variety of craft beers produced by both commercial and non-commercial brewers. The event will also include local food, music, games, raffles, and more; all set against a lush jungle backdrop. This year, the event will be located within walking distance to the Marino Ballena National Park beach at the Goathouse KM169, just south of Uvita.
The Ballena Beer Fest will take place Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 11am to 6pm. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and stay all day in order to have ample opportunity to try the many craft beers available.
Ballena Beer Fest strongly encourages responsible drinking and will provide free access to designated drivers, who will have the chance to meet the brewers while also enjoying the games, activities, music, and food. While designated drivers will not be able to purchase tasting tickets, non-alcoholic drinks and wine will be available for sale. Standard entries cost $20 and include entrance to the festival as well as giveaways from event sponsors, an informative beer pamphlet for taking notes, five tasting tickets and a commemorative pint glass. As there are expected to be more than 40 beers available at the event, pours will be limited.
Each tasting ticket allows attendees a 5oz pour. Tickets for the event are available in person at several businesses, including Bamboo Taco in Uvita, The Pizza shop in Jaco, Bodega de Chema in San Jose, and Goathouse KM169 in Bahia Ballena. All ticket holders must be at least 18 years of age.
