Free WiFi Network May Soon Be Available in Costa Rica

Soon, Ticos could be benefitting from a free WiFi network, eliminating the need to request passwords for tablets and smartphones. The Foreign Trade Ministry recently announced that the government is discussing the potential for developing a new public infrastructure with a company from South Korea. The firm, Wells Communication, Inc. would be responsible for developing a national LED public lighting system. That system would also offer closed-circuit video surveillance as well as free wireless Internet. Each light post would be able to broadcast as far as 500 meters.
Dae Woo Kim, CEO of Wells Communication, recently met with Presidency Minister officials regarding the potential for opening a manufacturing facility for light-emitting diodes in Costa Rica. Costa Rica's Foreign Trade Minister, Alexander Mora, would be responsible for coordinating further discussions with Wells Communications.
Mora has stated that the proposed project holds great appeal to Costa Rica because it would offer the right timing as the country works to improve energy efficiency and become more competitive. Additionally, the project would also be eco-friendly.
Recently, Intel closed their manufacturing facility in Costa Rica and the country has been actively courting more high-tech industries to invest in Costa Rica. President Solís has conducted a number of foreign investment trips in the past few months.
Currently, South Korea is known as one of the most connected societies in the world in terms of Internet affordability, speed, and access.
