Spirit Airlines, a discount carrier in the United States, recently announced that it will soon be making flights between San Jose and Houston four times per week. The new flights will begin on May 28, 2015. Up to 178 passengers will be accommodated on the Airbus A319 and A320 to be used on the upcoming flights.
The new route comes as part of the carrier's expansion to Latin America. Spirit Airlines will actually be the first airline to provide a flight from the central United States to Costa Rica. Due to the fact that Texas is the third largest state, offering tremendous traveler prospects for Costa Rica will serve to provide a basis for even more tourists visiting Costa Rica. The latest studies show that the Lone Star State has approximately two million residents who might be considered premier prospects for tourism to Costa Rica. Residents of Texas tend to be seasoned travelers with higher education and income levels, giving them the opportunity to take advantage of travel prospects.
Official reports further indicate that during the first part of this year, approximately 740,000 travelers from the United States entered Costa Rica by air using a tourist visa. In 2013, tourists from the U.S. entering Costa Rica stayed an average of 10 nights and spent an average of about $1,200 during their stay.
Along with Spirit, five other airlines have also recently announced that they will be scheduling flights to Costa Rica. Those airlines include JetBlue, Avianca, Delta, AeroMexico, and United, each of which are slated to increase their flights to Costa Rica's two international airports. Condor, a German airline carrier, also recently began a third weekly flight to the Country. Nonstop flights to Cuba were also recently resumed by Cubana de Aviacion. Rounding out the airlines increasing their flights to Costa Rica are Southwest Airlines and Thomson Airways, both of which have confirmed that new flights will occur in 2015. VivaColombia and Turkish Airlines are currently in the process of negotiating to open new routes to Costa Rica.
